Help Sumba Island Latest News and Updates

News update number 10

On her last Bali visit our "Big Help on the Site" Mrs. Ann reported to us, and the committee agreed to the following steps:

Due to the inspection of the well, the contractor, a local builder and the school head master found a new solution to solve the fresh water problem.

The well was cleaned from mud, the length of the pipe was adjusted and an additional electrical pump was installed. The water supply is now sufficient and is running well. There is now enough clean water available that the children also can have showers when needed.

The courtyard in front of the school building and the way to the bathroom/toilet facilities will now be plastered with concrete. The remaining basketball yard will follow later.

Due to the overall situation, the project comes slowly to an end. One of the remaining part of the project which is the nutritional support to the 136 malnutrition school children through providing nutrition balanced meals.

This target is a big challenge to continue the project which is until now successful and still in between the originally planned budged.

For this remaining target, we will start soon to find the necessary new funding.

Our first survey showed that one daily meal will cost around Rp. 3.000,--.

The planned kitchen including the necessary equipment is already installed and available.

The committee will now focus on this very important health issue. This part of the project will help the school children grow up healthy and this will assist for the development of their whole education.

The Chairman and the Committee members plan to visit the Project - Sumba site soon - depending on the weather and availability of flight tickets.
