News update number 8
According to the last Committee meeting decision held in January 2007 we received now the following requested detailed information from the project site:
The amount of the additional cost for the purchase and fixing of tiles for the bathrooms and kitchen is prepared and comes to app. Rp. 8 Mill. It was agreed to order this tiles now available in Waikabubak. The fixing should be done quickly, so that these sanitary facilities are available.
Regarding the land in front of the school, it was decided by the Committee that the cheaper version will be implemented and the land should be filled up with sand/filler.
Only the highest rocks must be broken down. This combination will be cheaper than to break down all the very hard stones. There will be needed app. 25 trucks of local small stones and 20 trucks of filler. Than it will be smoothened down much as possible manually. This land fill will come up to a cost of app. Rp. 8,5 million.
After this is completed it should be decided if this "courtyard" should be cemented over. This will need 80 sack cement and 8 trucks of sand. The work will take app. 6 days with 10 labors.
This would come to another additional cost of app. Rp. 9,5 million.
The landfill work can be started only after April or May when the rainy monsoon season is over and the manpower and the trucks are not used by the farmers.
A team consisting of one Rotary member (Rtn. Gobin) and one experienced plumber from Bali will depart soon to the project site in Sumba to inspect the new well and the already installed pump. At the same time they will repair (if possible) on the spot, or give their recommendations to bring this equipment to optimal function, or exchange it. According to this trip an overall situation report will be also prepared.
We received the good information just now that the new school started already a "Soft Opening" and the registered 126 students are using the new school facilities already.
The official "Grand Opening" is now planned for June / July depending on a "Good day" and when exactly the sponsors can make themselves available. The sponsors confirmed already their presents.
