News and Updates No 7

There was held a meeting on the 30 of Dec. 2006 which was attended by the Committee members

  1. Chairman : PP. Reinhold Jantzen PHF
  2. Financial Advisor : PP. Hanny Arianto, PHF
  3. Financial Controller : PP. I Nyoman Suastika PHF (excused)
  4. Technical Advisor : AGD Wayan Sudarma PHF
  5. Visitor : Ibu Endang
  6. Sumba Project visitor : Miss Ann

The committee appreciated very much that Miss Ann came to Bali . She gave new ”On the Spot" information's which where then discussed and the result are in the following recommendations - which are / will be - direct implemented.

Water supply

The water supply is still not sufficient and courses difficulties. The report shows that there might be a wrong connection or the supplied pump is not suitable, or is not strong enough. It was than agreed that the Rotary Club Kuta will send an experienced plumber (water expert/mechanical) which will be joined by a Rotary Club member to find out the difficulties and prepare a report or solve the problem finally direct on the spot.

Generator

The difficulties with the generator might come through a not sufficient air ventilation of the Generator unit.

This will be inspected by the plumber/mechanical together with the Rotary Club member at the same site visit.

The school building construction is according to the plan. At the end of Dec. the roof, floor, ceiling, doors and windows where already installed and the painting started already. In the meantime the tiles for the 6 bathrooms and the kitchen where purchased and are part wise already fixed to the floor/walls.

This tiles and the fixing to the walls are not included in the budged and the payment is additional.

Yard in front of the school building

Due to the sharp rocky ground there is no plain straight land in front of the school building. Most of the school children have no shoes or sandals. It would be very helpful if some land therefore could be prepared and filled up with sand to eliminate the sharp coral edges.

The project committee asked Miss Ann to find out how much this additional cost would effect the budged. These costs are not in the original budged.

School meals

The committee asked also to find out how height the cost for the originally planned enriched nutrition school meal would be. The actual plan is to serve one meal per week in the beginning. The estimated number of students would be around 130.

After some strong seasonal monsoon storms on Sumba Island, the bamboo shack school buildings collapsed in the heavy rain storms.

On this picture you can see the old bamboo shack school and the new school building is build behind it.

The 126 school children are very happy that the doors of the new concrete school facilities will be open soon and cannot await the time.
